A young Scottish immigrant by the name of Archie J. MacDermid starts a small metal finishing business in Waterbury, CT.
Enthone Begins Operations
An auto-body shop owner, a chemist, and a lacquer salesman start a business in a small garage in New Haven, CT.
Printing Blanket Manufacturing Process Begins in Adams, MA
Production of Textile Blankets begins and a decade later the business is acquired by W.R. Grace. This business ultimately becomes MacDermid Printing Solutions.
Metal Finishing Roots
MacDermid expands from its metal finishing roots into plating on plastics and electronics, and also expands globally into Europe and Asia.
Electrochemicals, Inc. is Founded
Originally based in Cleveland, OH, Electrochemicals in time becomes part of OMG.
Alpha Metals, Inc.
Alpha Metals, Inc. begins to expand internationally –England, Italy, Germany, Hong Kong, France, Ireland, Korea, Japan, Philippines, China and Malaysia.
Isaac Bentley & Co join the Offshore Fluids Industry
The business is then acquired by W. Canning & Co in 1988.
Circuit Chemistry Mfg Corp is Founded
Based in Maple Plain, MN, Circuit Chemistry eventually becomes part of OMG.
Autotype Product Portfolio Diversified
Product offerings now include hardcoated film applications for control panels and nameplates.
MacDermid Offshore Solutions
MacDermid purchases W. Canning & Co and spins off a new division in the offshore fluids business.
MacDermid Significantly Expands Industrial Business

Becoming MacDermid Performance Solutions
MacDermid combines operations with acquired businesses from Alent (Enthone and Alpha Assembly Materials) and OMG (Electronic Chemicals and Compugraphics). The new single entity – called MacDermid Performance Solutions – provides an enhanced innovation and service structure for customers around the world and at every step of the supply chain.
OUR BUSINESS
MacDermid Performance Solutions is in the international business of researching, developing, acquiring, manufacturing, marketing, and servicing, for optimum profit to us and our customers, specialty chemicals and systems for the metal and plastic finishing, electronics, graphic arts and offshore oil industries – in accordance with accepted ecologic and social considerations.

We will create an industry image that automatically causes people in the industries we serve to think first of MacDermid Performance Solutions.
We will justify their action by first thinking of the customers' needs – what's right for them makes it right for our company, by supplying a total system including processes, know-how and services that assist in meeting all their needs.
