A young Scottish immigrant by the name of Archie J. MacDermid starts a small metal finishing business in Waterbury, CT.
An auto-body shop owner, a chemist, and a lacquer salesman start a business in a small garage in New Haven, CT.
Production of Textile Blankets begins and a decade later the business is acquired by W.R. Grace. This business ultimately becomes MacDermid Printing Solutions.
MacDermid expands from its metal finishing roots into plating on plastics and electronics, and also expands globally into Europe and Asia.
Originally based in Cleveland, OH, Electrochemicals in time becomes part of OMG.
Alpha Metals, Inc. begins to expand internationally –England, Italy, Germany, Hong Kong, France, Ireland, Korea, Japan, Philippines, China and Malaysia.
The business is then acquired by W. Canning & Co in 1988.
Based in Maple Plain, MN, Circuit Chemistry eventually becomes part of OMG.
Product offerings now include hardcoated film applications for control panels and nameplates.
MacDermid purchases W. Canning & Co and spins off a new division in the offshore fluids business.
In addition to the W. Canning & Co purchase, MacDermid acquires Galvanevet and Ytema which brings MacDermid to the forefront as a global supplier of metal finishing chemistry.
Autotype introduces unique formable hardcoated materials for film insert Molding.
MacDermid Inc is Platform Specialty Product’s first acquisition.
The site is being transformed into the Enthone Advanced Technology Center with completion set for the end of 2016
