The World Leader in Flexo Technology for Newspapers
MacDermid Printing Solutions is the leading supplier of letterpress and flexo plates to the newspaper industry.  With the recent introduction of computer-to-plate technology for flexo newspapers and the addition of a second plate production facility in Europe, MacDermid Printing Solutions can handle all of your plate processing needs.

What's New
CTP for Flexo
MacDermid now offers NAPPflex CTP units with either manual-load or fully automated plate handling systems.  Depending on plate size and thickness, manual-load units will image 80 plates per hour while automated units will image 120 to 150 plates per hour.  A conveyor system will transport plates from the CTP units into our existing NAPPflex plate processors.  Ten NAPPflex CTP units will be in operation in the United States and Europe by 2007.

Are You Planning a Web Reduction?
You should consider mechanical lockups to take advantage of thinner versions of the NAPPflex III plate.  The main advantages to these thinner plates are improved print quality, faster processing speeds, reduced effluent and water usage, and a lower price.

European Facility Producing Thousands of Plates Daily
Nearly half of the NAPPflex plates made for our European customers are now being supplied directly from our new NAPPflex production facility in Wigan, England.  We are currently installing a second resin mixer and hiring a second shift as we continue to ramp up plate production.  Our goal is to supply all conventional NAPPflex plates to our European customers from this site by the end of 2006.  We will continue to develop and supply all NAPPflex Laser plates from our San Marcos facility through 2006.

Testimonials
Frank Anthony, VP Operations, Chattanooga Times Free Press
“I have managed newspaper production departments in New York, Colorado, Arizona, Texas and now Tennessee. I have had letterpress, offset and now flexo experience. When we decided to replace our letterpress, here at the Chattanooga Times Free Press, my first thought was offset. After visiting a few flexo newspapers it was apparent that this process was better than offset. Flexo used single fluid printing, true keyless printing without complicated, high tech solutions, the colors were always bright, the inks dense and even, dot gain was significantly less than offset, there were no trolleys marks, no tinting or toning, no rub ink…and the list goes on. Flexo is, and has been, the fastest growing process in the commercial world, growing at 4% to 6% a year and taking work from offset and gravure. Add this to the benefits outlined above and you have your answer as to why I chose flexo.”

John Bird, Managing Director of HQP, London
"Our choice of flexo technology for our new Didcot plant confirms our ongoing commitment to the process and its ability to meet the high quality standards that The Daily Mail and The Mail on Sunday demand.  It also has the potential to print special features and commercial work on super calendared or coated stock without the added capital cost and operating expense of a heatset offset press.  The reason we chose Cerutti was its ability to print on these higher paper grades and its unique, compact design with four satellite printing couples around a common impression cylinder to assure excellent registration for four colour printing."

The Flexo Process
Flexography is a direct printing process consisting of an ink chamber, an anilox roller, a plate cylinder, and an impression cylinder. The anilox roller first picks up ink from the ink chamber. After the doctor blade removes excess ink from the anilox roller, the ink is transferred to the printing plate. The ink on the plate is then transferred directly onto the web.
