MacDermid Offshore Solutions has evolved over the years with a solid reputation that started from day one.

Established in the 1880s, Isaac Bentley and Co. were major suppliers of greases, lubricants and fire resistant hydraulic fluids to the mining and hot metal industries in the UK. As the Offshore Industry grew, it was a natural progression to supply fluids into this market. In the early 1970s, Erifon 818, an explosion resistant water based motion compensator fluid, was successfully introduced. Our Erifon BOP fluids quickly followed and by 1980 the Oceanic range of subsea production control fluids was well established.

In the early 1980s emphasis began to shift from operational performance and safety (fire resistance) to include environmental properties. The 1980s saw the company merge with Marston Lubricants to form Marston Bentley, then in 1988 the company was purchased by Wm Canning Ltd, a UK based multinational chemical company. This led to further investment in the development of Offshore fluids.

In 1998 the technology was spotted by MacDermid Inc and the rest is history. Our company profile was a perfect match to the MacDermid “Yes We Can” strategy.
