Silicon Solar Cell Fabrication Process

There are three primary ways that electrical energy is collected from the sun - crystalline silicon, thin-film, and organic photovoltaic cells. There are still many ways in which thin-film and organic cells can be manufactured, but the crystalline silicon manufacturing sequence is mostly standardized. The process flow chart below details the steps used to produce 1) screen-printed silicon cells, and 2) cells manufactured using chemically deposited metal conductors. The process steps in blue color represent wet chemical process steps. Even within these standard process flows, there is substantial variation from one PV manufacturer to another. Ask MacDermid Photovoltaics how we can make your unique PV designs come true.
